it is not necessary to have a high performance pc.
If your handling is to slow it depends often on the proejct. For example too many surfaces.
In general it is important that your graphic driver is the newest.

DIALux ist currently using only one cpu-core. (If you start calculating, a new task will open and a dual core will be helpfull).
If you will do a lot of renderings in PovRay at the same time, then a quadcore make sense.

In the moment I'm doing a medium-size calculation with a groundfloor of 25m x 15m in DIALux and onlay ~500mb RAM are used by DIALux. So I think that 4GB RAM will be enough.

My graphic-card is an ATI Radeon HD 3800 Serie and DIALux will work very fast without jerking.

But pay attention if DIALux need more than 2gb while the calculation/rendering DIALux will be closed with an error!!!
It is currently not possible to use up to 2gb for the DIALux process.

The machine is not so important for dialux, if you have a normal PC (like Core Duo ) you are ok.
Problems are on develope of Dialux, single core, limit of ram usage.
I've a Pentium Q9450, 4Gb of RAM (1066), Nvidia FX3700 (a good PC) that work like my old P4 2800
So, reduce number of surface, limit number of luminaries, save camera position, do the calculation... or, sometimes, start the PovRay without the calculation that'dont work and Dialx shuts down

Problems are know at develope team, I hope in Light & Building new version!!
